Issue #713

The Polls Got 2024 Wrong. This Doesn't.
Pundits predicted. Polls projected. Most of them missed. Prediction markets didn't.
Kalshi is where people put real money behind their political read — which means the prices you see on who wins the 2028 nomination aren't opinions. They're commitments. Right now, tens of millions of dollars are already trading on who gets the Republican and Democratic nominations.
That's a different signal than any poll you'll read this week.

Cape May’s Summer Calendar Heats Up with MAC Events and Historic Tours

Summer has arrived in Cape May, and Cape May MAC (Museums+Arts+Culture) is kicking off the season with a wide range of events celebrating the region’s history, arts, and coastal attractions. The June lineup features activities for visitors of all ages, beginning with the Summer Crafts & Collectibles Show on June 13 at the Emlen Physick Estate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The following week, attendees can explore local history during the Lunch & Learn: Grant Street Beach program on June 17 at Cape May Lutheran Church Hall at noon. Music lovers can enjoy a performance by the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players on June 18 at 7 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Advent. Families are also invited to celebrate Father’s Day weekend with Fathers Climb for Free at the Cape May Lighthouse on June 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Throughout the summer, Cape May MAC will continue offering its popular trolley tours, lighthouse climbs, and historic house experiences. The Cape May Lighthouse remains a centerpiece of seasonal activities, including weekly Family Fun Days held every Wednesday from July 1 through Aug. 26, featuring free activities for children at the lighthouse grounds. Visitors can also climb the lighthouse’s 199-step spiral staircase for panoramic views of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Additional attractions include guided trolley tours highlighting Cape May’s Victorian architecture, evening ghost tours exploring local legends, and tours of the historic Emlen Physick Estate, which features exhibits connected to the 1876 Centennial Exposition. Beyond Cape May MAC’s programs, the city’s summer calendar is filled with entertainment, including free concerts at Rotary Park and major performances at Cape May Convention Hall, making the resort destination a vibrant hub for residents and visitors throughout the season.
Howard Street Ramble Celebrates Summer and Chalfonte’s 150th Anniversary

One of Cape May’s most beloved summer traditions is once again filling Howard Street with music as the Howard Street Ramble returns to the historic Chalfonte Hotel. Held every Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m., the free live music gathering has become a staple of the Cape May summer season, drawing locals and visitors alike to the hotel’s iconic front porch and lawn. The Chalfonte Hotel, founded in 1876 and recognized as Cape May’s oldest original hotel, is celebrating its 150th anniversary this summer, adding special significance to this year’s Ramble season. Guests often arrive well before the music begins to secure a coveted rocking chair on the expansive porch. Others spread out across the lawn with folding chairs, creating a relaxed community atmosphere that frequently expands onto the nearby closed section of Howard Street as crowds grow throughout the evening. Led by musician Chris Gillin-Schwartz, the Howard Street Ramble features a rotating lineup of performers delivering an energetic mix of folk, bluegrass, Americana, soul, roots music and rock. The ever-changing ensemble incorporates a wide range of instruments, including fiddles, mandolins, harmonicas, banjos, guitars, percussion and drums, ensuring no two performances are exactly alike. For those looking to combine dinner and live music, the Chalfonte’s Magnolia Room offers porch seating with views just steps from the performers. Food and beverages are also available through the hotel’s King Edward Bar. When the outdoor performance concludes around 9 p.m., the music continues indoors with Ramble After Dark in the Henry Sawyer Room. The late-night gathering offers a more intimate setting featuring many of the evening’s musicians along with additional performers. The Howard Street Ramble is held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, performances move under the hotel’s covered porch. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating on the grass. Outside food and beverages, large blankets, and pets are not permitted.
