Cape May Point Arts and Science Center Invites Public to Stargazing Night

If you still haven’t taken the family to The Cape May Point Arts and Science Center you are missing out. The center is dedicated to promoting artistic expression, scientific exploration and environmental stewardship through exhibits, workshops and educational programs designed to inspire curiosity and lifelong learning for all ages. The event happening this Friday is just one example of the many family friendly happenings the center has to offer. The Cape May Point Arts and Science Center is inviting the community to spend an evening exploring the cosmos during a special stargazing event featuring astrophysicist and Atlantic Cape Community College professor Dr. Frank Toriello. The program will take place Friday, June 26, beginning with doors opening at 8 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure seating before Dr. Toriello’s presentation starts at 8:30 p.m. inside the Center’s Science Exhibit Hall. During the indoor session, attendees will learn about the stars, planets, the solar system and the broader universe. Following the presentation, guests will move outside to the Center’s courtyard for a guided stargazing experience using telescopes and telescopic binoculars provided for the event. The timing coincides with a new moon, creating darker skies and ideal viewing conditions. Several celestial highlights may be visible, including Jupiter and Venus low on the horizon, along with constellations such as Bootes, Virgo, Leo and Cassiopeia. Visitors are encouraged to bring beach chairs or blankets and insect repellent for comfort. Those with their own telescopes or binoculars are welcome to bring them as well. We hope to see you there!
Ocean City Council Faces Crucial Vote on Future of Wonderland Pier Site

This story just seems to go on and on. Ocean City Council is expected to make a pivotal decision Thursday on whether to designate the former Wonderland Pier property as an area “in need of rehabilitation,” a move that could clear the way for redevelopment of the landmark Boardwalk site. The vote, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier auditorium, marks a significant step in determining the future of the property at Sixth Street and the Boardwalk. The larger venue was selected in anticipation of a strong public turnout. Developer Eustace Mita, owner of the ICONA hotel brand, has proposed a $150 million, 252-room luxury resort hotel for the site. The former amusement park, which operated for nearly six decades, permanently closed in October 2024 after years of financial struggles. Because the property is not currently zoned for hotel development, the rehabilitation designation is viewed as a critical step that could accelerate redevelopment efforts. A deadlocked 4-4 Planning Board vote in January left the proposal stalled, placing the decision squarely in the hands of City Council. A report prepared by planner Jennifer L. Heller of Polistina & Associates concluded there is substantial evidence supporting the rehabilitation designation. The report emphasized that the designation itself would not change zoning or bypass the normal development approval process but would allow the city to pursue redevelopment strategies aimed at preventing further deterioration and promoting economic growth. The proposal has sharply divided residents. Supporters believe redevelopment would revive the northern end of the Boardwalk and stimulate tourism and business activity. Critics argue that a large-scale hotel could overwhelm surrounding neighborhoods and alter Ocean City’s traditional family-oriented character.
$50,000 Powerball Ticket Sold at Cape May Court House ACME

A lucky lottery player in Cape May Court House is holding a winning Powerball ticket worth $50,000 after matching four of the five white balls and the red Powerball in the June 15, 2026 drawing. The ticket was purchased at the ACME supermarket on Court House South Dennis Road in Cape May County. Hitting one additional number would have elevated the prize to more than $300 million. The New Jersey Lottery has not announced whether the winner has claimed the prize. Under state law, winners can choose to remain anonymous when collecting their winnings. New Jersey Lottery records show that 10 players statewide won prizes of at least $10,000 during the week.
