Cape May's Salt Marsh Safari Ranked No. 2 Boat Tour in America

Cape May has earned national recognition after the Salt Marsh Safari aboard The Skimmer was named the No. 2 Best Boat Tour in the United States in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. Operated by Cape Water Tours and Taxi, the popular eco-tour introduces visitors to the unique coastal environment of Cape May's protected back bays. The two-hour excursion combines scenic sightseeing with educational experiences led by professional marine biologists and ornithologists, giving passengers an up-close look at the region's diverse wildlife and fragile salt marsh ecosystem. The tour takes place aboard The Skimmer, a 40-foot U.S. Coast Guard-certified pontoon boat designed for smooth travel through calm back-bay waters. The excursion is suitable for guests of all ages and highlights birdwatching, native wildlife, and the ecological importance of the Delaware Bay coastline. In addition to the Salt Marsh Safari, Cape Water Tours and Taxi offers several other excursions, including dolphin watches, seal cruises, sunset trips, and private charters for groups ranging from two to 100 passengers. The company also operates a Marine Life Safari, featuring hands-on experiences such as a touch tank, crab pot demonstrations, and fish trap hauls. The tours depart from South Jersey Marina, located at 1231 Route 109 in Cape May, continuing to showcase the area's rich natural beauty while attracting visitors from across the region.
Cape May County Approves Nearly $470K for Homeless Services Programs

The Cape May County Board of Commissioners has approved funding for fiscal year 2027 social services programs that provide assistance to individuals and families experiencing homelessness throughout the county. The agreement with the New Jersey Department of Human Services includes $420,120 in state grant funding, along with $48,881 in county matching funds, for a total of $469,001. The funding period runs from July 21, 2026, through June 30, 2027. The Cape May County Department of Social Services will use the funding to provide a range of essential services, including food assistance, emergency shelter support, case management, homelessness prevention, and transportation for residents in need. County officials say the programs are designed to address immediate challenges while helping participants work toward long-term housing stability through coordinated support and access to community resources. The Board of Commissioners said the funding reflects the county's continued commitment to assisting vulnerable residents and strengthening services that help prevent homelessness while promoting self-sufficiency.
$3 Million Mega Millions Winner Emerges from North Wildwood Acme

A Mega Millions ticket purchased at an Acme supermarket in North Wildwood has turned into a $3 million prize after a random multiplier boosted the standard second-tier payout, according to the New Jersey Lottery. The winning ticket was sold at Acme Markets, 2400 Delaware Ave., in Cape May County, for the Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Mega Millions drawing. Under the game's enhanced prize structure, the ticket received a 3X multiplier, increasing the usual $1 million prize to $3 million. The multiplier feature, introduced as part of the Mega Millions game update earlier this year, randomly increases eligible non-jackpot prizes. No ticket nationwide matched all six numbers to win the jackpot. As a result, the estimated grand prize for the next drawing on Friday, July 17, 2026, has climbed to $672 million, with a cash option of approximately $293.3 million. The North Wildwood winner was among three major second-tier winners in Tuesday's drawing. Additional multi-million-dollar tickets were sold in Georgia, where a player won $4 million, and Florida, where another ticket claimed $2 million.
