Cape May MAC Highlights Heritage, History and Family Adventures Across Cape May

 Cape May MAC (Museums+Arts+Culture) is inviting residents and visitors to explore a full lineup of historic sites, guided tours and family-friendly events throughout the summer while discovering the rich heritage of Cape May.

Founded in 1970 to save the historic Emlen Physick Estate from demolition, the nonprofit organization has grown into a leading force in preserving the region's history, architecture and culture. Today, Cape May MAC operates three of the area's most recognizable landmarks: the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, the Cape May Lighthouse and the World War II Lookout Tower.

The Emlen Physick Estate remains one of Cape May's premier attractions. The 18-room Victorian mansion, recognized as New Jersey's prettiest building, offers guided tours that showcase Victorian life and architecture while providing visitors with a welcome escape from the summer heat.

The Cape May Lighthouse continues to draw visitors eager to climb its 199 steps for panoramic views and refreshing ocean breezes. The various trolley and walking tours run by Cape May Mac that explore the city’s legendary history are also fan favorites

Wednesday Family Fun Days feature free crafts and activities for children, while special events include Christmas in July on July 25 and National Lighthouse Day festivities on Aug. 7.

Beyond its daily tours, Cape May MAC hosts major annual events including the Cape May Music Festival each spring, Victorian Weekend in October and the longtime Christmas Candlelight House Tours during the holiday season.

Additional experiences include Black History Tours developed in partnership with the Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey, guided trolley tours, and nautical and nature cruises focused on whales, dolphins and the region's coastal ecology.

Cape May MAC has also released its Summer Press Packet featuring information, photos and media resources highlighting seasonal tours, family programming and special events. Additional press materials are available year-round through the organization's Media Center at capemaymac.org/media.html.

Explore the Night Sky During Stargazing Event at Cape May Point Arts & Science Center

 The Cape May Point Arts & Science Center will host a Courtyard Stargazing event on Thursday, July 24, offering visitors an evening of astronomy led by astrophysicist and Atlantic Cape Community College professor Dr. Frank Toriello.

The program begins at 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 8 p.m. Guests will first enjoy an engaging presentation inside the Science Exhibit Hall before heading outdoors to the center’s courtyard for guided stargazing. Telescopes and telescopic binoculars will be available, and attendees are also welcome to bring their own equipment.

Weather permitting, participants can observe a waxing gibbous Moon, the Summer Triangle made up of the bright stars Vega, Deneb and Altair, the constellation Scorpius with its striking orange star Antares, and possibly Venus in the evening sky.

If cloudy skies prevent outdoor viewing, the event will continue indoors with an expanded astronomy program featuring the latest discoveries in astrophysics, including exoplanets, the search for extraterrestrial life, black holes, and new findings from the James Webb Space Telescope. Guests will also have the opportunity to explore the center’s exhibits and learn about the history of the Cape May Point Arts & Science Center.

Attendees are encouraged to bring beach chairs or blankets, along with bug spray, for added comfort. Parking is available along the streets surrounding the center, and organizers recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early to secure seating.

Proceeds from the event will support the Cape May Point Arts & Science Center’s mission to expand educational programming for the community. Tickets are available through the center’s website and social media links.

NWS Confirms Cape May Point Tornado Following Severe Shore Storms

Waterspout off of Cape May Point

A brief tornado touched down at Cape May Point on the evening of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after a waterspout formed over the Delaware Bay and moved ashore during a line of severe thunderstorms that swept across Cape May County.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the tornado and said it plans to conduct a virtual damage survey because the storm's impacts were isolated and the circulation weakened shortly after making landfall.

The rotating storm developed over the Delaware Bay before crossing the shoreline near Cape May Point shortly before 7 p.m. The tornado quickly dissipated after coming ashore, limiting its impact.

The storms dropped significant rainfall across Cape May County, with Wildwood receiving approximately 2.5 inches of rain, while several other shore communities recorded more than an inch.
