Cape May MAC Invites Guests to Crack the Case at Historic Physick Estate

Cape May visitors can put their detective skills to the test this summer during “Clueless at the Physick Estate: Liberty and Justice,” an interactive murder mystery experience at the historic Emlen Physick Estate.

Set against the backdrop of an Independence Day family gathering, the original mystery follows two sisters whose strained relationship reaches a breaking point after a major disagreement. Their attempt to celebrate the holiday together quickly unravels, leaving guests to determine who is responsible when events take a shocking turn.

Participants move from room to room inside the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, encountering a cast of characters and uncovering clues in a live, immersive mystery inspired by the classic whodunit board game. With every guest considered a potential suspect, attendees are challenged to piece together the evidence before the story reaches its conclusion.

The event takes place at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., Cape May, on Mondays and Wednesdays through Aug. 31, with performances at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Ocean City Combines Patriotism and Holiday Spirit for 71st Night in Venice

Ocean City officials have announced a patriotic and festive theme for the 71st annual Night in Venice celebration, combining America’s 250th birthday with the spirit of Christmas in July.

The 2026 event, scheduled for July 25 at 6:30 p.m., will carry the theme “Stars, Stripes and Christmas Lights,” encouraging participants to decorate boats and bayfront homes with patriotic colors, holiday lights and creative displays along the parade route.

The dual concept was selected to honor the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration while also embracing the popular “Christmas in July” tradition, which falls exactly six months before Christmas Day. Organizers say the expanded theme gives participants more flexibility and opportunities to create colorful and imaginative displays throughout the event.

Night in Venice will once again feature a decorated boat parade traveling along the back bays from the Ocean City-Longport Bridge to Tennessee Avenue. Thousands of spectators are expected to line the waterfront while many homeowners along the route host annual viewing parties. A fireworks display over the bayfront will follow the parade later in the evening.

Ocean City officials have announced that former Philadelphia Phillies All-Star John Kruk and actor Randy Quaid will serve as grand marshals for the 2026 Night in Venice celebration on Saturday, July 25.

City officials said Kruk's longtime popularity and connection to America's pastime made him a fitting choice for this year's celebration. Baseball has long been viewed as a tradition that brings families and communities together, a spirit organizers say reflects the enduring appeal of Night in Venice.

Night in Venice is one of Ocean City's most anticipated annual events, drawing thousands of spectators to enjoy decorated boats, waterfront festivities and community celebrations.

Aspiring Performers Invited to Audition for Gateway’s Production of “9 to 5”

Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point is inviting aspiring performers to audition for its third MainStage production of the season, "9 to 5: The Musical." Open auditions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 10 and 11, at the theater. All roles are open, and performers ages 16 and older of all experience levels are encouraged to audition.

Featuring music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and based on the classic 1980 film, 9 to 5: The Musical tells the story of three office workers who join forces to challenge their overbearing boss while transforming their workplace. Set in the late 1970s, the musical combines comedy with themes of friendship, resilience, equality, and empowerment.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Aug. 17 and will generally take place three to four times each week, including some weekends. Cast members will be expected to attend all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances. The production will run Sept. 24–27 and Oct. 1–4.

Auditioners should prepare a song in the style of the show that highlights their vocal abilities. An accompanist will be provided. Participants will also perform a monologue from the production. Audition materials, including character descriptions and monologues, are available through Gateway Playhouse's Facebook and Instagram pages.

Gateway Playhouse is encouraging performers from diverse and underrepresented communities to audition as part of its commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming theater environment.
