New Zebra Foal Makes Her Debut at Cape May County Zoo

 The Cape May County Park & Zoo has welcomed a new addition to its African Savanna exhibit with the birth of a healthy female Grant's zebra foal.

The foal was born on July 17 to mother Lydia and the herd's stallion, Ziggy, marking Lydia's fourth foal at the Cape May County Zoo.

County officials celebrated the birth as another milestone in the zoo's ongoing conservation and animal care efforts.

Cape May County Commissioner Andrew Bulakowski, liaison to the Cape May County Park & Zoo, said each birth highlights the important work taking place at the county-owned facility and encouraged residents and visitors to stop by to see the newest member of the herd.

Visitors can expect to find the young zebra resting for much of the day, a normal part of early development. Between naps, the foal can be seen nursing, staying close to Lydia and gradually exploring the African Savanna habitat alongside the rest of the herd.

Grant's zebras are a subspecies of the plains zebra native to the grasslands of central and eastern Africa. Following a gestation period of about 13 months, zebra foals are born highly developed. They are typically able to stand within minutes of birth and begin running within about an hour. Visitors can view the new foal in the African Savanna exhibit as she continues to grow with the rest of the zebra herd.

 

New Ghost Tales Lead Cape May MAC's Expanded Tour Season

 Cape May MAC is expanding its lineup of paranormal experiences in 2026 with new ghost stories, fresh local accounts of unexplained encounters, and a series of tours that explore the supernatural history of one of New Jersey's most famous seaside destinations.

The centerpiece of many of these experiences is the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, a Victorian landmark that has long been regarded as Cape May's original haunted house. Before its restoration, the mansion sat vacant for decades after being stripped for demolition. In October 1970, nearly 1,000 visitors toured the abandoned home during a haunted house fundraiser that generated support for preserving the property. That effort eventually led to the formation of Cape May MAC, the nonprofit organization that continues to manage and preserve the estate and other historic landmarks throughout Cape May.

Today, the Physick House Museum is recognized as one of the nation's finest examples of Stick Style architecture. Despite its restoration, the mansion's reputation for paranormal activity has endured, drawing ghost hunters, television crews, psychics and curious visitors from across the country.

Cape May MAC says staff members have spent years documenting unexplained activity inside the historic home using modern paranormal research equipment. Their investigations have produced audio recordings and visual anomalies that have become part of several visitor experiences, alongside personal stories shared by employees who have worked in the mansion.

Longtime paranormal researcher and psychic medium Craig McManus remains a central figure in Cape May's ghost tourism. McManus has spent more than three decades investigating reported hauntings throughout the resort community and has written five books about the area's paranormal history. Since 2004, he has partnered with Cape May MAC to share those stories through guided tours and special events.

Although he lives in Bergen County, McManus frequently visits Cape May to conduct investigations, present lectures and lead paranormal programs. His work has been featured by major newspapers, magazines and television programs, helping establish Cape May as one of the country's best-known destinations for ghost enthusiasts.

Cape May MAC offers ghost-themed tours and experiences from March through December, giving visitors opportunities to explore the town's supernatural legends beyond the Halloween season.

Among the featured programs are the Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tour, which highlights reported hauntings throughout the historic district; the Ghost Walk with Craig McManus, where participants visit well-known paranormal locations on foot; and the Channeling Dinner, combining a three-course meal with a live spirit channeling session.

Visitors can also experience Voices from Beyond, featuring audio recordings and visual evidence collected inside the Physick Estate, or join the Haunted Tales of the Cape tours, which introduce newly uncovered ghost stories shared by longtime local residents and museum staff.

Additional experiences examine Victorian-era fascination with spiritualism, illusion and superstition, including the Strange Victorian Obsessions House Tour, Spirits & Oddities Trolley Tour, and Spirits, Oddities & Obsessions Combo Tour.

Beachbound Travelers Can Ride to Cape May for Just $5

A popular summer shuttle connecting Philadelphia with the Jersey Shore is back, offering travelers an affordable and festive way to reach two of South Jersey's most popular beach destinations.

The Jitney Yellow Line by Pacifico is once again providing $5 round-trip shuttle service between Philadelphia and Wildwood or Cape May, with options for weekend getaways and single-day excursions.

Passengers can choose from a variety of pickup and drop-off times, making it easy to customize their beach trip. Organizers have also added a new Sunday evening return service, allowing visitors to extend their stay at the shore before heading back to Philadelphia.

Beyond transportation, the Jitney experience is designed to create a social atmosphere from departure to arrival. Riders can take part in pre-departure happy hour gatherings, enjoy entertainment on board, and continue the festivities at participating locations once they reach the shore.

Trips scheduled for July 31-Aug. 2 will travel to Cape May.

Each passenger receives an "Adventure Kit" featuring a beach towel, a life jacket-shaped beverage koozie and sunscreen.

Tickets are $5, making the service an inexpensive alternative to driving and parking at the shore.
