Cape May Point Center Hosts Interactive Family Arts and Science Nights

Families looking for an evening of creativity and discovery will have two opportunities to take part in Family Arts and Science Night at the Cape May Point Arts and Science Center.

The interactive program will be held on Thursday, July 31, and again on Thursday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., giving families another chance to participate if they are unable to attend the first event.

Designed for all ages, the program combines arts, crafts, engineering, and science through a variety of hands-on activity stations. Participants can create DIY bath bombs, paint rocks, build spaghetti towers, and contribute to a collaborative mural while exploring science through engaging experiments and nature-themed activities.

Additional stations may include the popular Elephant Toothpaste experiment, strawberry DNA extraction, a pollinator garden scavenger hunt, and a nature documentary screening, offering a mix of creative projects and interactive learning experiences.

Organizers say the event encourages families to explore science and art together through tactile activities, surprising demonstrations, and opportunities to create lasting memories in a fun and welcoming environment.

 

Families Invited to Celebrate a Beloved Cape May Tradition at Baby Parade

 One of Cape May’s most cherished summer traditions is returning as the 93rd Annual Cape May Baby Parade takes place on Friday, July 31, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The family-friendly event will feature children ages 12 and younger dressed in creative costumes and riding in decorated wagons, strollers, and other themed entries as they make their way along the parade route to the Cape May Convention Hall. Spectators can expect plenty of colorful costumes, imaginative displays, and community spirit during this longtime Jersey Shore celebration.

Participation is free for children ages 12 and under. Day-of registration begins at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Congress Street and Beach Avenue, with judging concluding at 10:30 a.m. Winners will be announced at the Cape May Convention Hall, where trophies will be presented in several categories, including Beach Baby, Fancy Dress, Superhero, Decorated on Wheels, and Best Overall Entry.

Families may also preregister at the Cape May Convention Hall through July 30 at 4:30 p.m. If weather affects the event, the parade will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

The annual parade continues to be a highlight of Cape May’s summer calendar, bringing together residents and visitors to celebrate creativity, family fun, and a tradition that has delighted generations.

Cape May County Celebrates 50 Years of Senior Artistic Achievement

Cape May County is marking a major milestone with the 50th Annual Senior Art Show, which opens Aug. 21 at Atlantic Cape Community College's Cape May County Campus.

Supported each year by the Cape May County Board of Commissioners and the Division of Aging and Disability Services, the exhibition celebrates the artistic talent and creativity of county residents ages 60 and older. Artists from across Cape May County will display works in a wide range of mediums, offering the public an opportunity to experience the contributions of local senior artists while highlighting the role creativity plays in healthy, active aging.

The exhibition will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between Aug. 21 and Sept. 2 at the college campus. Admission is free.

A recognition ceremony honoring all participating artists is scheduled for Sept. 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the college. Family members, friends, and community residents are encouraged to attend and celebrate the artists' accomplishments.

Entries will be judged in Professional and Non-Professional divisions across several categories, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital/computer art, mixed media, craft, and printmaking.

Category winners will earn the opportunity to advance to the 60th Annual New Jersey State Senior Citizens Art Show at Meadow Lakes Senior Living Community in East Windsor. That statewide exhibition will run from Sept. 28 through Nov. 4 and will feature award-winning artwork from senior artists across New Jersey.

County officials describe the annual event as a longstanding tradition that showcases the creativity, experience, and lifelong passions of Cape May County's older residents while inspiring others through the arts.

Artists interested in participating must submit their entries by Aug. 1. Applications and additional information are available through the Cape May County Division of Aging and Disability Services by contacting Theresa at 609-886-2784.
