Wildwood’s Morey’s Piers to Host Family Fun Event Benefiting CHOP

 Morey’s Piers in Wildwood will host its first-ever Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Friends & Family Day on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, bringing together a full day of family entertainment while raising money to support one of the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals.

The fundraising event will help benefit CHOP’s pediatric care, medical research, innovative treatments, and family support programs. Organizers say every ticket purchased contributes directly to helping children and families receiving care through the hospital.

Each event ticket includes admission to Morey’s Piers’ amusement rides, access to the beachfront water parks, and a catered luncheon, giving families the opportunity to enjoy the attractions while supporting an important cause.

Discounted online ticket pricing is available ahead of the event. Tickets cost $85 through Aug. 1, $100 through Aug. 28, and $120 on Aug. 29. Prices do not include applicable sales tax. Tickets will be sold online only and will not be available at the gate.

Event organizers expect attendance to be strong, noting that tickets are limited and could sell out before the event date.

The inaugural fundraiser highlights a partnership focused on combining family entertainment with charitable giving, helping provide resources that support CHOP’s ongoing mission of delivering world-class pediatric healthcare to children throughout the region and beyond.

Four Cape May County Parkway Exits Could Get Major Upgrades

Cape May County officials are renewing their push to convert four partial Garden State Parkway exits into full interchanges, arguing the improvements would ease local traffic, strengthen emergency response and provide better evacuation routes during coastal storms.

The Cape May County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution Aug. 11 supporting full-access interchanges at Exits 6, 13, 17 and 20. The county is urging the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, which operates the Parkway, to advance planning, design, funding and construction for the projects.

The four exits serve communities throughout Cape May County. Exit 6 provides access to North Wildwood, Exit 13 serves Avalon and Swainton, Exit 17 serves Sea Isle City and Dennis Township, and Exit 20 serves Upper Township.

All four currently provide only partial access to the Parkway, limiting the directions in which motorists can enter or exit.

At Exit 17, for example, motorists can leave the Parkway while traveling southbound and enter it heading northbound. A full interchange would add a southbound entrance and a northbound exit, giving motorists access in all directions.

County officials say the incomplete interchanges can force motorists onto local roads to reach their destinations, contributing to congestion in communities that already experience substantial increases in traffic during the summer tourism season.

Officials also see full interchanges as a public safety improvement. Additional Parkway access points could give police, fire and emergency medical services more options when responding to incidents while providing residents and visitors with additional routes during hurricane or coastal storm evacuations.

 

Calm-Looking Ocean Concealed Dangerous Current in Cape May Point Rescue

Off-duty Cape May Point lifeguard Ryan Gibson rescued a 10-year-old girl after a powerful incoming current swept her into deep water at Lehigh Avenue beach shortly after 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12. Without his normal rescue equipment, Gibson reached the girl and guided her onto nearby rocks before additional lifeguards and emergency personnel helped everyone safely ashore. No serious injuries were reported. Officials say the incident underscores the danger of swimming after lifeguards leave for the day, particularly because strong tidal currents can exist even when the ocean appears calm.
