 Cape May Lunch & Learn Shines Spotlight on Commercial Fishing

Cape May’s fishing industry and its influence on the region’s economy, culture and history will take center stage during the “Beyond the Beaches: The Fishing Industry of Cape May” Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at noon. The program, led by Mark Allen, will be held at Cape May Lutheran Church Hall, 509 Pittsburgh Ave.

The presentation will explore a side of Cape May that visitors may not immediately associate with the popular resort destination. Beyond its beaches, Victorian homes and restaurants, the Cape May area supports one of the East Coast’s significant commercial fishing operations and an extensive network of waterfront businesses.

Attendees will learn about the commercial fleet, the seafood species landed in the area and the infrastructure required to support the industry. Sea scallops are among the port’s most valuable catches, while local vessels also harvest squid, butterfish, summer flounder, black sea bass, scup, mackerel, herring, surf clams and ocean quahogs.

The program will also highlight Cape May’s recreational fishing heritage, including the MidAtlantic, a major offshore tournament associated with marlin and tuna fishing. The event is intended to show how fishing continues to contribute to Cape May’s identity and economy beyond the busy summer tourism season.

Boots at the Beach Returns to North Wildwood for Two-Day Country Music Festival

Boots at the Beach will return to North Wildwood for a two-day country music festival on Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026. The family-friendly event will be held at Seaport Pier, 2201 Boardwalk, bringing live country music, line dancing, food, drinks and Western-themed vendors to the beach and boardwalk.

Friday’s lineup features Nikki Briar and the Sweet Briar Band from 4 to 6 p.m., Y’all Or Nothin’ from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Rustic Revival from 9 to 11 p.m. Saturday’s schedule includes Rustic Revival from 1:30 to 4 p.m., 40 North from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and Triple Rail Turn from 7:30 to 11 p.m. DJ Ashley Rose will provide additional entertainment throughout the weekend.

Tickets will be sold exclusively at the entrance to Seaport Pier on the days of the festival. One-day admission is $10, while a two-day pass costs $15. Passes include reentry, allowing festivalgoers to leave the event to enjoy the beach or explore the North Wildwood Boardwalk before returning.

The Anglesea Irish Society is presenting Boots at the Beach in partnership with the Barefoot Country Music Festival, the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. More information is available at BootsAtTheBeach.com

Antique and Classic Cars Roll Into Cape May for Annual Auto Show

Cape May’s annual Antique Auto Show returns Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, bringing a collection of vintage and classic vehicles to the Jackson Street Parking Lot in downtown Cape May. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free for spectators.

Presented by the Jersey Cape Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, the show offers visitors an opportunity to see carefully preserved and restored automobiles representing different eras of automotive history. In addition to viewing the vehicles, attendees can meet owners and enthusiasts and learn about the stories behind the cars.

The show will be held rain or shine, with trophies scheduled to be presented at approximately 2:45 p.m. Vehicle owners who want to display a car must register, and participation is limited.

The Jackson Street location places visitors within walking distance of Cape May’s downtown businesses, allowing spectators to combine the free car show with a day of shopping, dining and sightseeing in the historic seaside community.
