Your Backyard Renovation List Is Missing Something

Every backyard renovation has a list. New deck. Better lighting. Maybe that outdoor kitchen you've been pinning for years.

Here's what usually gets left off: shelter. Without it, your brand-new patio is only as good as the weather forecast. A Hansø pergola fixes that.

Built from T6 aerospace-grade aluminum and engineered for up to 167 mph winds and up to 65 PSF snow load, it keeps your patio covered, comfortable, and in use from spring through winter. Motorized louvers let you decide how much sky you want, anytime.

Early Bird Offers EXTENDED: save up to 40% on pergolas, plus a $1,000 installation voucher, a Free Hansø ProCheck Care™ 10-Year Plan worth $950, FREE heater and more.

The list is long. Make sure the most important thing is on it.

Cape May Stage to Honor D-Day Heroes With Free Film and Filmmaker Q&A

Cape May residents and visitors will have an opportunity to experience a moving tribute to World War II veterans when Cape May Stage hosts a free screening of the documentary A Thread Through History on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

The special presentation begins at 3 p.m. at the historic Robert Shackleton Playhouse, located at 405 Lafayette Street in Cape May.

Admission is completely free, and no tickets or advance reservations are required. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m., with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The screening is presented in partnership with American Veterans Media, with voluntary donations accepted to support the organization's work.

A Thread Through History explores one of the most significant events in modern history: the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

The 87-minute documentary examines the Allied campaign to defeat Nazi Germany, the sacrifices made during World War II, and the lasting consequences experienced by veterans, their families, and communities across Europe.

Filmed in five countries — the United States, France, England, Germany, and Belgium — the documentary connects personal stories with the broader history of the war.

Beyond the military victories, the film examines the human cost of conflict, the relationships forged between Allied forces and the communities they helped liberate, and the ways wartime experiences continue to influence generations of families

At the center of the documentary is The Longest Yarn, an extraordinary handcrafted tapestry created to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Stretching approximately 265 feet, or 80 meters, the massive wool artwork features three-dimensional knitted and crocheted scenes depicting the Normandy invasion and the experiences of those involved.

Created through the efforts of volunteers from around the world, the tapestry combines historical storytelling with traditional craftsmanship.

The documentary follows the artwork's journey through exhibitions across Europe and the United States, highlighting how a creative project became an international tribute to the men and women who served during World War II.

The tapestry also serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving firsthand accounts and historical memories as the number of surviving World War II veterans continues to decline.

In addition to the screening, attendees will have an opportunity to hear directly from the filmmakers during a question-and-answer session following the documentary.

The discussion will offer audiences a chance to learn more about the film's international production, the historical research behind the project, and the significance of The Longest Yarn.

The documentary premiered at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on May 15, 2026, before continuing its journey to additional audiences.

The Cape May presentation provides a meaningful opportunity for local veterans, military families, history enthusiasts, and community members to experience the film together.

Donations will be accepted to benefit American Veterans Media, but contributions are not required to attend.

With Veterans Day approaching on November 11, the screening offers the Cape May community an opportunity to reflect on the service and sacrifices of the Greatest Generation.mFor those interested in military history, documentary filmmaking, or honoring the legacy of World War II veterans, the event promises an afternoon of remembrance and historical storytelling.

Family Promise Launches Holiday Campaign to Keep Cape May County Families Safe and Sheltered

While many families are preparing for Christmas morning, decorating their homes, and shopping for gifts, some Cape May County parents are facing a much different holiday reality: uncertainty about where their children will sleep.

This holiday season, Family Promise of Cape May County is working to change that through its Gift of Home campaign, an initiative designed to help local families experiencing housing instability and homelessness. The nonprofit organization is encouraging community members to make a difference by supporting programs that provide temporary shelter, homelessness prevention assistance, and resources to help families achieve long-term housing stability.

For children facing uncertain living situations, the greatest Christmas gift may not be something wrapped beneath a tree. It may simply be having a safe place to call home. The holiday season is often associated with family traditions, festive celebrations, and the excitement of Christmas morning.

However, for families struggling with housing insecurity, the holidays can bring additional financial and emotional challenges. Family Promise of Cape May County works to ensure that children and their parents have access to the support they need during difficult times.

Through its Gift of Home campaign, the organization hopes to provide more families with the security and stability that can make a lasting difference in their lives.

Rather than focusing solely on holiday presents, the campaign emphasizes the importance of safe housing, reliable support systems, and the opportunity for families to build a more secure future.

Contributions to Family Promise support several programs designed to address family homelessness and housing insecurity throughout the county.

Family Promise of Cape May County is part of a broader effort to prevent and end family homelessness while helping children maintain a sense of security during challenging circumstances.

Its mission extends beyond providing temporary shelter. Through individualized support and connections to local resources, Family Promise helps parents address financial and housing challenges that can threaten their family's stability. The Gift of Home campaign gives Cape May County residents an opportunity to support those efforts during a season traditionally centered on generosity and community.

Donations can be made online to support the organization's housing assistance and homelessness prevention efforts.

Community members can also help by sharing information about the campaign and encouraging others to learn more about family homelessness in Cape May County.

For families experiencing housing instability, having a dependable place to live can mean more than a comfortable Christmas morning.

Stable housing can provide children with a better opportunity to focus on school, maintain routines, develop friendships, and experience the security that every child deserves.

It can also give parents the foundation they need to pursue employment, manage finances, and plan for their family's future.

As the holiday season approaches, Family Promise of Cape May County is reminding residents that generosity can have an impact that extends well beyond December.

A contribution to the Gift of Home campaign can help provide something that cannot be placed in a gift box: the hope of a safer, more stable tomorrow.

Cape May County Bridge Replacement Could Mean Months of Detours and Traffic Delays

New Jersey transportation officials are preparing to replace the Cedar Swamp Creek Bridge on Route 50 in Cape May County, with construction scheduled to begin the week of November 13, 2026.

The Cedar Swamp Creek Bridge serves an important role in Cape May County's transportation network, particularly during emergencies requiring coastal evacuations. County officials have pushed for the aging structure to be replaced, emphasizing the importance of maintaining reliable access for residents and visitors traveling inland from shore communities.

Temporary traffic lights and detours along Tuckahoe Road and Tyler Road will redirect passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. Upper Township officials have requested reduced speed limits, while residents have raised concerns about visibility, congestion, and safety near a temporary traffic signal on Tuckahoe Road. For Cape May County commuters, the project represents another major infrastructure improvement that comes with a familiar South Jersey challenge: navigating construction while keeping local traffic moving safely.
