From Cape May City Hall to Congress: Zack Mullock Pulls Off Historic Election Victory

It’s a classic case of “Local Boy Does Good!” as Cape May’s own Zack Mullock pulls off one of the biggest political upsets in South Jersey history, defeating four-term Republican Congressman Jeff Van Drew in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District.

In a race political analysts had considered safely Republican, Mullock proved that grassroots determination, community connections, and a message of change could overcome the odds. His stunning November 3, 2026, victory flips the congressional seat to Democratic control and sends a familiar Cape May face to Washington, D.C.

The celebration was electric Tuesday night at Cape May’s historic Chalfonte Hotel, where a packed Magnolia Room erupted with excitement as supporters welcomed their hometown mayor as the district’s next congressman. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill joined the festivities, calling the victory historic, while Democratic U.S. Sen. Andy Kim congratulated Mullock by telephone.

Mullock’s campaign focused on working families, affordable healthcare, economic challenges, and restoring accountability in Washington. Despite being significantly outspent by Van Drew, his campaign built momentum through volunteers, neighborhood outreach, and support from Democrats, independents, and Republicans willing to cross party lines.

The election also revealed a remarkable shift in Cape May County politics. Although Van Drew carried the traditionally Republican county, his margin narrowed to fewer than 4,000 votes, a dramatic change from previous elections when the county provided a substantial cushion for his victories.

Van Drew, who was first elected to Congress as a Democrat in 2018 before switching to the Republican Party in 2019, graciously conceded Tuesday night. He personally called Mullock to congratulate him and wished the incoming congressman success, acknowledging that his success would ultimately benefit South Jersey.

For Cape May residents who have watched Mullock serve their community, the victory carries special meaning. The local mayor, known for his family roots and connection to everyday residents, is now preparing to represent an entire congressional district in the nation's capital.

From the streets of Cape May to the halls of Congress, Zack Mullock's journey is a hometown success story that few political observers saw coming.

And for those celebrating across Cape May County, the message is simple: Local boy does good — and South Jersey makes history!

Jersey Cape Jubilee Brings Rock & Roll Legends to Life in Cape May November 14

While many families are preparing for Christmas morning, decorating their homes, The sounds of American rock and roll will take center stage in Cape May this November as some of the Jersey Cape's finest musicians come together for a special concert celebrating generations of legendary music.

The Jersey Cape Jubilee, presented by Marnie B. Productions, will take place Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Cape May Convention Hall, located at 714 Beach Avenue.

The concert promises a musical journey through the history of American rock and roll, highlighting the legendary performers, influential songwriters, and groundbreaking musical movements that helped shape the nation's cultural identity.

From the early sounds of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley to the surf rock, folk, and psychedelic music of the 1960s, the evening will showcase songs that defined generations.

Audiences can expect music associated with The Beach Boys, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and the Grateful Dead, along with classics from the 1970s and 1980s made famous by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Aerosmith, Marvin Gaye, the Allman Brothers, the Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band.

The production will feature a large ensemble of talented local and regional musicians, bringing together some of the Jersey Cape's most accomplished performers for a night of live entertainment.

Marnie B. Productions, the creative force behind previous Cape May musical events including Cape May's Last Waltz and Cape May Goes Electric, is organizing the celebration.

Beyond the familiar melodies and legendary artists, the Jubilee will explore the cultural significance of American music and its connection to the country's history.

Rock and roll, folk, blues, soul, and roots music have long reflected the American experience, from working-class struggles and the pursuit of freedom to social change, individual expression, and life on the open road.

Songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen, Woody Guthrie, and Bob Dylan helped give voice to everyday Americans, while generations of musicians blended musical traditions to create sounds that continue to influence popular culture.

The concert's celebration of American music also comes as the nation marks its 250th anniversary in 2026, providing an opportunity to reflect on the songs and artists that have helped define the American story.

In addition to offering an evening of entertainment, the event will support the local community. Proceeds from the Jersey Cape Jubilee will benefit the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May, which promotes local businesses and the region's tourism economy.

Tickets are $50 per person and are available through the City of Cape May Box Office.

With a lineup of celebrated American music and an ensemble of Jersey Cape musicians, the Jersey Cape Jubilee promises an evening of nostalgia, musical energy, and community spirit.
