Atlantic City Electric Launches Relief Effort as Energy Costs Rise Across South Jersey

Atlantic City Electric is reinforcing its commitment to helping customers manage rising energy costs as its parent company, Exelon, rolls out a broader initiative known as The Exelon Promise. The effort is designed to provide immediate financial relief for customers while also pursuing long-term solutions to stabilize energy costs and maintain reliable service. The plan includes a $4.5 million relief fund, expanded assistance programs, protections to ensure large energy users pay for grid upgrades, and long-term energy reforms such as community solar and battery storage. The company has already helped more than 35,000 customers receive over $54 million in energy assistance. Looking further ahead, Atlantic City Electric is backing broader reforms aimed at improving the region’s energy system. Proposed strategies include expanding community solar projects, increasing battery storage capacity, and continuing investments in energy efficiency. The company says these efforts are intended to strengthen reliability while helping control long-term energy costs for South Jersey residents.

Hidden Gem: The Cold Bowl Café Is Winning Fans in Rio Grande, New Jersey

A small café in Rio Grande, New Jersey is gaining attention among locals for bringing fresh, health-focused food options to an area not typically known for unique dining destinations. The Cold Bowl, located at 1602 NJ-47 along Route 47, has quietly built a strong following thanks to its made-to-order menu and welcoming atmosphere. The family-owned café specializes in customizable superfood bowls, including acai, pitaya, and mango-based options, along with wraps, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, and breakfast items. Each dish is prepared individually, allowing customers to watch their orders come together with fresh ingredients and carefully arranged toppings. The acai bowl has become the café’s most popular item, drawing both new visitors and regular customers who appreciate its thick consistency and customizable toppings. Other menu favorites include the Sun and Vine sandwich, a flavorful combination of fresh greens, roasted tomatoes, and a creamy spread on sesame bread. The café also offers lighter options such as Caprese and Mediterranean salads, as well as a Rustic Burrata dish that has surprised many customers with its quality and presentation. Breakfast offerings have expanded with the addition of oatmeal bowls like the Rise and Shine and Old Fashioned, giving customers a warm option during cooler months. Simpler items like hard egg toast provide additional variety for those looking for a quick morning meal. Owned and operated by Joy, Kim, and Jackie, The Cold Bowl was created to offer something different from the many fast-food and traditional restaurant options in the area. The café’s focus on fresh ingredients, customizable meals, and friendly service has helped it stand out among both local eateries and larger chain bowl shops found throughout Cape May County. With a strong customer rating and a growing base of regulars, The Cold Bowl is gradually changing the perception of Rio Grande as a place without notable food destinations. The café has become a convenient stop for locals grabbing breakfast, lunch, or a drink before heading to the beach or running errands around the area.
